Welcome to STARS TechARTS Academy's
Summer Camp 2008
Letter from the Publisher
Thank you for reading our summer 2008 publication of Stars TechARTS Academy P.R.O.S.E. Magazine, where our goal is to bring glory to God by featuring Positive, Realistic, Outstanding, Student, Experiences!
The song, “I Need a Star to Shine On Me” written and produced by my youngest son Joshua Gerald-George Austin, who is a junior at Morehouse College; and performed by my 10 year old grand-daughter, Christina Noel Lollar, is the theme song for our 2008 Stars TechARTS Academy Camp!
Each morning campers recited the camp’s memory verse: Daniel 12:3:
“Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, will shine like the stars in heaven forever and ever.”
And they sang our Reaching for the STARS theme song before spending time in a daily 30 minute bible study.
As you read through our P.R.O.S.E.Magazine, you will find our students truly shining like the stars in heaven. For eight weeks our campers have gone through free testing and post testing of their academic skills, pacing through multimedia arts, music production , journalism and computer technology – they are “Reaching for The Stars.”
Many people try to be stars in the world of entertainment, only to find their stardom temporary. However in the above passage, God tells us how we can be eternal stars by being wise and leading our family, friends and neighbors to respect and embrace God’s righteousness. If we share our Lord with others, we can be true stars radiantly beautiful in God’s sight.
By encouraging our staff, students and parents to “Reach for The Stars,” we also know that character really counts. It is a fact that it is impossible to be a real shining star, but your character is questionable. Therefore, Biblically-based character education is a major feature of our culture as our entire camp (staff & students) and their families are engaged in learning and applying Six Pillars of CHARACTER COUNTS! which follows the acrostic T.R.R.F.C.C. (pronounces terrific):
Trustworthiness
Respect,
Responsibility
Fairness
Caring
Citizenship
Through much prayer hard work and the wise use of technology, we have been successful in transitioning our best practices programs and services developed over 20 years to a platform that allows us to serve the Birmingham community and beyond. So that we can continue this work of God, please join me today by praying for our future, our children and taking advantage of our parent support network and giving financially.
Please visit the Camp 2008 website here to see what our campers have been doing this summer. Also register your support to give, pray or volunteer. You can also call or write us.
God’s blessings on you and your family. Jeremiah 29:7
